IoT, RV automation

As part of my CEIS 101 class we designed a home security system using the Internet of Things (IoT).  I have since developed this to be an bathroom alarm system for my Travel Trailer.  The idea is that my bathroom is shared by the tent campers we spend time with.  Depending upon proximity of a "person" to the toilet the light will change to notify others that the bathroom is occupied.

IoT, Traffic Light

As part of my CEIS 114 class we designed a Traffic Light using the Internet of Things (IoT).  I have added to it a Web Controller for an Emergency Light so that Emergency Services can take control of the light if needed.

Comptia Linux+ Practice

During CEIS 106 "Introduction to Operating Systems" we reviewed the Comptia Linux+ Certification requirements.  This project is all of the work I put into the class to practice for this Compita Linux+ Cert test.  At this time I am still practicing these skills and preparing to take the actual test outside of this class.

Programming with Python

CEIS 110 "Introduction to Programming" class taught me the basics of Python Programming.  I am happy for the opportunity to put these skills into writing like this as I wish to do more projects like this in the future.  My life is busy right now so hopefully this artifact will be a good resource to refer back to in the future.

Fundamentals of IT and Networking

NETW 191 was a fun class.  Luckily for me a lot of the info is stuff I already knew about.  My time in the IT help desk of the Airforce and maintaining my own network systems have given me a strong base of information.  It was still good to get an in depth review and learn more about bigger networks.

Fundamentals of Cloud Computing

NETW 211 - Here I feel like I learned a LOT.  I may have had a good standing with my networking knowledge, however I had no understanding of cloud computing prior to this class.  My time here, I feel, has been well spent.

Fundamentals of Information System Security

SEC2285 - I knew very little about this topic going in.  I learned more than I expected to.  I struggled with this class quite a bit.  The hash topics are confusing to me.  I understand the basics, but I am not yet prepared to try the Security+ certification test.

Automation and Control Systems

ECT286 - I knew very little about this topic going in.  I learned more about how to control the Automation equipment I already knew about.  The hardest part of this class was reading the book.  There was a lot of detail I didn't already know.  I believe I now understand the basics, and I look forward to using this technology more in the future.

Applied Physics

PHYS204 - I knew the basic math prior to taking this class, however, I feel like I learned a lot from the formulas and implication of theory into the world we live in.  Through this experience I found that I quite enjoy experimenting with the world.  The hardest part of this class was reading the book.  There was a lot of detail I didn't already know and I found it hard to understand at first.  I believe I now understand the basics, and I look forward to using my new found joy in experimentation more in the future.

Programming with Objects

CEIS150 - I took a python programming class previously.  I thought it would be a walk in the park...  I failed to recognize how much of the previous class I had forgotten.  This class not only served as a refresher for me, but this project helped me finally tie what I learned into a real life example.  I already like to look through the stock market, but this program I just built can help me actually keep track of my very own investments over time using the historical data downloads.  Maybe some day I will improve it to be more automated, but as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) I feel this can serve me well.

Engineering Technology Fundamentals

CEIS301 - I felt like this was a basic science class all over again.  Many fundamentals were covered and it was  a good review of many things.  It did also remind me of many advanced topics that we were not able to cover in detail, for example that all things move in frequencies.

Wired, Optical and Wireless Communications

NETW310 - This was a complete review for me.  Most of this information I learned while in the Airforce as a Ground Radar Technician.  It was a good review though as I had forgotten some of this information due to a lack of use.  If I decided to go into a network engineering job of any kind this will be useful.

Process Improvements

CEIS310 - This course gave me a new perspective to making improvements in an industrial environment.  In this day of data driven decision making Six Sigma is a massively powerful skill to learn.  As I studied this topic I found myself combining Python programming, Machine Learning, and Six Sigma to find insights beyond what I once was capable of.

Senior Project

TECH460 - This Senior Project was actually quite enjoyable.  I had an opportunity to apply for a job at this company in the middle of creating this.  I learned a lot about how the company works and I was given an opportunity to improve myself before applying again.  The learning I received from Rick Halverson will not be forgotten.  Thank you, Rick, for showing me around!
